REPORT ABUSE AND NEGLECT

You could receive $500

Neglect and abuse of an animal is a horrible crime.   Do you know someone who is mistreating an animal? Do you see a "sad situation" each day coming to and from your travels?  To stand by and know of such crimes and not do anything.. is as if you are doing it yourself.

If you know of an animal that is being neglected, abused or has been abandoned.. please call our hotline and report it, you do not have to leave your name. If you want to email the information, contact us at stokeshumanesoc@aol.com, keep in mind we need location, names if possible, and the animals involved before we can do anything about it.  Filing a report is a must to establish a pattern, so contact us each and very time.

If you know of a situation where dog fighting is taking place, the Stokes County Humane Society is offering $500 to anyone whose report ends in a conviction.

Do your part, your anonymity ... your information is held in the strictest of confidence.  Remember, all it takes is a phone call to end the suffering of a helpless and defenseless animal.. and you could most likely have saved its life.. is that not worth an anonymous phone call? We sure hope so! Call us at 994-6117 and thanks for doing the right thing!

NC Law Regarding Animal Welfare

This section comprises the relevant North Carolina animal cruelty statutes.  The anti-cruelty statute provides that if any person intentionally overdrives, overloads, wounds, injures, torments, kills, or deprives any animal of necessary sustenance, he or she is guilty of a Class I misdemeanor.  If a person maliciously tortures, mutilates, maims, cruelly beats, disfigures, poisons, or kills any animal he or she is guilty of a Class I felony.  This section also makes promoting or conducting a cock fight a misdemeanor and promoting or conducting a dogfight a felony.  Other prohibited acts include abandoning an animal, conveying any animal in a cruel manner, and restraining a dog in a cruel manner.
